When starting to compile a list at http://www.mlb.com of current Extra Base Hits Leaders – I was unimpressed about the slowness of the webmasters.
I love the MLB, and the coverage/video highlights is fantastic at the site. Their updating the stat leaders for active players needs to be seriously addressed. so the top 10 list will be posted tomorrow instead.
Manny Ramirez, Ivan Rodriguez and Todd Helton are on this list.
Okay, I can give them a slight pass on Helton, however he has filed his retirement papers already, but Pudge and Man-Ram – c’mon.
In 11th. 12th and 13th are also Johnny Damon, Scott Rolen and Andruw Jones. These are all guys that never set foot in the MLB during the 2013 season.
I will also give them a pass for Bobby Abreu (who is attempting a comeback into the MLB). If he is successful, the former Phillies player would be the ALL-Time Doubles leader now that Helton is not playing.
Okay, this has forced me to sift through the entire active website and list guys that aren’t playing anymore, or maybe in other leagues.
Who knows, this may turn out to be a 4 or 5 part series.
This is not surprising, Russell Branyan (2011) is still on the active list. Other guys: Hideki Matsui (2012), Casey Blake (2011), Grady Sizemore (2011), Rod Barajas (2012), Fernando Tatis (2010), Adam Kennedy (2012), Julio Lugo (2011), Scott Podsednik (2012), Ryan Spilborghs (2012), Willie Harris (2012), Alex Cora (2011), Jack Wilson, (2012).
Geronimo Gil (last played in the MLB 2007, still playing in the Mexican League).
Ruben Mateo (last played in the MLB in 2004, is still playing in the Mexican League).
Ramon Vazquez (last played in the MLB 2009 – and in Independent Ball 2012).
Jose Macias (last played in the MLB in 2005, and in the Mexican League (2010)).
Brian Anderson (last played in the MLB in 2009, and last played MiLB 2012).
Kazuo Matsui (2010 in MLB, keeps playing the NPB – Japan).
Alex Cintron (2009 in MLB, and 2012 in the Mexican League).
Josh Bard (2011 in MLB, 2012 in MiLB).
Ruben Rivera (2003 last MLB game, although he has played in the Mexican League,)
Bobby Crosby (2010), Jason Lane (Last MLB Game i n 2007, but at least he is in the Minors as a Pitcher now).
Bobby Kielty (last MLB game in 2007, last played Independent Ball in 2012).
Ryan Garko (2010 in MLB, 2012 in MiLB).
Chris Woodward (2011 in MLB, 2012 in MiLB).
Karim Garcia (last played in the MLB in 2004, but is still playing in the Mexican League).
Freddy Sanchez (last played in the MLB 2011).
Angel Berroa last played in the MLB in 2009, but is still playing in the Mexcian League).
I will put up some more tomorrow as I continue this quest..
